Travel with mobile data

China is one of the most complex travel environments in the world, combining massive cities, high-speed infrastructure, strict internet regulations, and a completely different digital ecosystem compared to Western countries. Travelers visit China to explore destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and many cultural and natural sites across the country. However, traveling in China requires preparation, especially when it comes to connectivity. Many commonly used apps and services are restricted, and relying on public WiFi or local SIM cards can lead to limited access. This eSIM gives a compatible, unlocked phone a digital data plan for China mainland, so you can prepare the installation before you need to be online. After arrival, use it for directions, a booking reference or a change of meeting point when a local signal is available. Keep the next address and transport details downloaded: even an active plan may lose coverage on a particular route. The product's Supported Countries field, rather than the destination name alone, is the final reference for the included area.

Coverage and local networks

The current Technical Specs list China Telecom 4G, China Unicom 5G, China Mobile 5G as partner network access. Reception and speed depend on the exact location, compatible device and local conditions. A network labelled 5G or 4G does not promise the same technology in every building or along every road. Coverage can vary around urban transfers, long routes and less populated areas. Before setting off, save an offline map and agree on a meeting point if a connection is important for your plans. Avoid treating mobile data as the sole channel for time-critical arrangements.

Using data during your trip

Unlike many local SIM cards that operate under strict restrictions, eSIMGlobe routing allows access to global internet services, enabling travelers to use apps that are otherwise limited. One of the biggest challenges when traveling in China is access to commonly used apps such as Google services, WhatsApp, and other communication tools. With eSIMGlobe, users can continue using WhatsApp, Google Maps, Gmail, and other essential apps without needing complex setups. For travelers who depend on global platforms for communication, navigation, and planning, this feature significantly improves the overall travel experience. Travelers often move between multiple destinations within a short period of time. A connection can also help with translation, tickets and contacting a host, but app availability and signal can differ by place. Download any important confirmation before you leave a well-connected area. If your itinerary continues into another country or territory, compare each stop with the Supported Countries field on this product page. A nearby border, ferry crossing or airport connection does not automatically make a single-country plan regional. Plan around the routes you will actually take rather than assuming uninterrupted reception.

Choosing and installing your eSIM

Choose the Unlimited plan duration that covers your full trip, including arrival and departure. Maps, email and messaging generally consume less data than streaming, video meetings, cloud photo backup or hotspot sharing. You can top up this Unlimited eSIM by adding extra days of validity, not GB. Install the eSIM over reliable Wi-Fi on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone. If a one-tap link is included and supported, open it on the phone; otherwise scan the supplied QR code from another screen or use the manual details. Follow your order's activation instructions.

Calls, messaging and plan details

This plan supplies mobile data and does not provide a new telephone number, regular voice minutes or standard SMS. Keep your primary SIM active if you need its existing number for calls or verification messages, subject to that operator's roaming charges. Internet messaging and calls use the purchased data where the relevant services work locally. Select the travel eSIM for mobile data at the appropriate time and keep your confirmation email for troubleshooting. Review the destination, network listing and selected data option just before checkout; the conditions of a particular plan matter more than a general claim about coverage in China mainland.
