Yes. Install it before departure while connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network, but use it only when you are ready to connect in Jamaica. Do not delete the eSIM after installation, as most eSIM profiles cannot be installed a second time.

Open your phone settings, select the eSIM as the line for mobile data and enable data roaming for that line. It should connect automatically to a supported network. If it does not, restart the phone and check that your usual SIM is not selected for mobile data.
