Fair Usage Policy eSIMGlobe
Fair Usage Policy (FUP)
This Fair Usage Policy explains how fair usage limits may apply to certain eSIMGlobe data plans, including selected Unlimited plans.
1. Introduction
eSIMGlobe aims to provide all customers with a reliable, stable and high-quality mobile data experience. Mobile networks are shared resources, and exceptionally high or abnormal usage by individual users may affect network performance for others.
This Fair Usage Policy ("FUP") is designed to ensure that network resources are used reasonably and fairly, while helping us maintain a consistent level of service for all eSIMGlobe customers.
2. Which plans are subject to the Fair Usage Policy?
This Fair Usage Policy may apply to eSIMGlobe plans advertised as "Unlimited", "Unlimited Data", or any other plan where a Fair Usage Policy is specifically mentioned.
The exact high-speed data allowance, reset period and reduced speed may vary depending on the plan, destination and network partner.
The specific conditions shown on the product page at the time of purchase form part of the applicable Fair Usage Policy for that plan.
3. How does the Fair Usage Policy work?
Some eSIMGlobe plans include a specific amount of data that can be used at the highest speed available on the local network.
Once the high-speed data allowance included with the plan has been used, the internet connection may remain active at a reduced speed until the allowance resets according to the conditions of the selected plan.
Example: some eSIMGlobe plans may include 1 GB of high-speed data during each applicable usage cycle.
After the high-speed allowance has been used, the connection may continue at a reduced speed of up to 512 Kbps for the remainder of that cycle.
The example above does not apply to every eSIMGlobe plan. Some products may include a higher or lower high-speed allowance, a different reset period, or a different reduced speed.
Always check the product page before purchasing to see the exact Fair Usage Policy applicable to your selected plan.
4. When does the high-speed allowance reset?
The reset period depends on the plan purchased. Certain plans may reset their high-speed data allowance every 24 hours, while other products may use a different usage period.
Where a reset applies, access to the applicable high-speed data allowance is restored automatically at the beginning of the next cycle.
The exact reset conditions are displayed on the relevant eSIMGlobe product page.
5. Why does eSIMGlobe apply a Fair Usage Policy?
Fair Usage Policies are commonly used to help protect mobile network quality and ensure that available capacity is shared reasonably between users.
The policy helps eSIMGlobe and its network partners to:
- maintain a stable mobile data experience for customers;
- reduce excessive network congestion;
- prevent unusually intensive or abusive use of network resources;
- comply with technical restrictions imposed by local mobile networks;
- keep Unlimited and high-data plans sustainable for normal travel use.
6. What happens when I reach my high-speed data limit?
Reaching the Fair Usage Policy threshold does not necessarily mean that your data connection will stop.
On applicable Unlimited plans, your internet connection may continue at the reduced speed specified for your selected plan until the next reset period.
For example, on a plan with a 1 GB high-speed allowance and a 512 Kbps Fair Usage speed, once the 1 GB allowance has been consumed, your connection may continue at speeds of up to 512 Kbps until the allowance resets.
7. Are there additional charges after reaching the FUP limit?
Unless otherwise stated on the product page, reaching the high-speed Fair Usage threshold does not automatically generate additional data charges.
Instead, applicable Unlimited plans generally continue to provide data access at the reduced speed specified in the plan conditions.
Customers should always review the individual product description before purchase, as conditions may vary between plans.
8. What can I do at 512 Kbps?
A reduced speed of approximately 512 Kbps is suitable for many basic travel activities, including messaging, email, light web browsing, navigation and checking travel information.
However, activities that require more bandwidth, such as high-definition video streaming, large downloads, cloud backups, video calls or heavy hotspot usage, may be significantly slower once the high-speed allowance has been reached.
9. Hotspot and tethering
Hotspot or tethering availability are available for the plans in eSIMGlobe, check always the specs to verify if there is any plan do not provide, usually are really few of them .
Where hotspot usage is permitted, data used by connected devices counts toward the same data allowance as data used directly on the smartphone. Hotspot activity can consume high-speed data significantly faster, especially when connecting laptops, tablets or multiple devices.
eSIMGlobe recommends monitoring your data usage when tethering in order to avoid reaching the Fair Usage threshold earlier than expected.
10. Prohibited or unreasonable usage
eSIMGlobe plans are primarily intended for normal personal travel and mobile connectivity.
Usage may be considered unreasonable or abusive when it substantially exceeds normal personal use or negatively affects network resources. Examples may include:
- continuous automated downloading or uploading of large amounts of data;
- automated systems generating unusually high levels of traffic;
- continuous peer-to-peer or file-sharing activity;
- reselling or redistributing the eSIMGlobe connection to third parties;
- using the service as a permanent replacement for a fixed commercial broadband connection where the plan is not intended for such use;
- any unlawful activity or usage that violates the requirements of our local network partners.
11. Network management
eSIMGlobe and its network partners may apply reasonable network management measures where necessary to protect service quality, network availability and other users.
In cases of abnormal, excessive, fraudulent or prohibited usage, these measures may include:
- temporary reduction of connection speed;
- temporary restriction of specific network functions;
- suspension of service in cases of serious or repeated abuse;
- termination of the service where necessary in cases of serious, fraudulent or repeated violations.
12. Network speeds and coverage
The maximum network speed available is not guaranteed and can vary depending on several factors outside eSIMGlobe's direct control.
These factors may include:
- the local mobile operator;
- network coverage at your location;
- network congestion;
- device compatibility;
- available network technology such as 4G or 5G;
- buildings, terrain and environmental conditions;
- local network management policies.
References to 4G, LTE or 5G describe network availability where supported and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a specific connection speed.
13. Plan-specific conditions
Fair Usage conditions can vary between eSIMGlobe products.
For example, one plan may include 1 GB of high-speed data before being reduced to 512 Kbps, while another plan may provide a different amount of high-speed data or different Fair Usage conditions.
Where there is any difference between this general Fair Usage Policy and the conditions displayed for a particular product, the plan-specific conditions displayed on the product page take precedence.
14. Changes to this Fair Usage Policy
eSIMGlobe may update this Fair Usage Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our products, network partners, technical requirements or applicable regulations.
The latest version published on the eSIMGlobe website represents the current version of this policy.
